Questions about new interface
I'm wondering if they've improved the things I didn't like about the old iPod interface.
1. When you navigate to a list of songs (playlist, album tracks) is "Shuffle" the first choice like in the iPhone or AppleTV?
2. When playing a track is there a shortcut to toggle shuffle or do you still have to navigate back to the settings menu?
3. Is there any organization inside playlists besides just the list of songs? Can you Coverflow only the items in the playlist or do artist/album drill down?
Thanks.

# 1 Re: Questions about new interface
1. Not sure. i own a classic but never ever use shuffle feature
2. there is a toggle to select shuffle without going to the main menu. just hit the centre button a few times and select shuffle
3. dont use playlists either just browse my tunes all the time!

1,2) Not sure what you mean here. If I click on a song to begin playing it, then center-click 3 times I get the shuffle options (off song album). You no longer have to go back to settings or whatever at the main menu.
3) I've not found any other settings for coverflow to let you limit the albums you're seeing, but I'm no expert yet. (I'm still searching for a coverflow primer thread!)
Is any of this at all helpful?

Thanks, you answered 2 and 3. I'll clarify my first question. Say you choose Playlists and then a particular playlist. You now have a list of songs in the playlist. With the iPhone and AppleTV, when you do this the first item in the list is "Shuffle" and then after that the individual songs are listed. What I'm asking is if the new Classic/nano interface does this.

Ah, gotcha. I've not really seen the iPhone, so didn't know how that worked. ;)
The answer is "no." If I go to a playlist, all I am presented is songs.
e.g. Music > Playlists > World Lists > African > (a listing of songs, showing the artist name now, too)
Again, I haven't really exercised this guy yet, he's only been here about 24 hours.

That is oe thing the ipod does badly. It is very hard to get a list of songs you are currently listening to. I was used to this feature on my zen. You could tap the pad and see a list of the current playlist. The only way I have seen to do this on the classic is to use the menu button as a back button, and that only works if the song list was the last screen you looked at.
Please somebody tell me how do that, if I am wrong.
To answer your questions;
1: No there is no shuffle option in the song lists screen
2. Yes there is an option to shuffle songs or albums on the now playing screen (4th tap in)
3. No. Not yet, maybe with a firmware update. But I doubt it will happen.
