A video on what I think about the iPod Classic

Hope it isn't too long, but I felt interested in talking about the iPod Classic. So, here it is then:

Humm I don't experience ANY of those issues, However to be fair I haven't really paid attention if the album skips over the next song when in Album Menu.

The coverflow however does in fact load the 2nd song first when you try to select the first song you have to go back to play the first song.

The genius that thought it'd be genius to organize the coverflow by ALBUM ARTIST rather than ALBUM should be fired..that was a seriously moronic move. For example I have Pulse with various artists..the iPod will display a album art picture for EVERY ARTIST on the cd.

I agree on the wait statement unless you can tolerate the glitches which for me its not all that bad..its pretty bad for a apple product though this is by far the glitchest iPod I've ever owned. It seriously shouldn't even have made it on the shelf in the state its in I have a feeling someone needed to make a deadline on this release. firmware 1.0.1 improves delays slightly but its still a bugger. Please don't spam your video using other threads. I've removed the other post linking to your video.

Also, if you really want the average american like me to watch it, you may want to consider trimming the length down by about 10 mins. ;).

I think the length of the video is fine, I guess if you are impatient perhaps its too long.

i dont know how you would fix this, but my only complaint was that whenever you showed us the ipod screen, it appeared all white and I couldn't really see what was going on

When I saw this post, I thought it was a comic relief or that he's rapping it. :D

I guess if u have the same probs, u may spend the 15 mins whatever to commiserate.

If u just jumping around "helping," 3 minutes is too long.

Choose your audience.

Whoa, whoa.. I spammed the link?

If posting the link in only one other thread counts as spam, then I apologize. Yeah, I could have made it shorter, but then again, these are my thoughts. I just didn't want to make it all about bugs and such, hence the long beginning. ;)

A couple of things in response:
1. Cover flow is slow even on my more than capable notebook. I wouldn't expect it to be fast on a iPod as it is processor intensive.

2. If you want to have album art then I don't see a problem with editing 100GB worth of tracks or more. I don't see what cover flow has to do with editing track ID information. You could throw the same complaint at other portable mp3 player manufacturers.

3. Cover flow is not a life saver in terms of browsing music, it was never made to be (not even in iTunes). You have many, many options for browsing your music whether it be by albums, artists (the one I use the most), genre, etc.

4. Duplicate artwork... Yeah, that is a bug and it is even in iTunes. I have many albums that show up twice in cove flow. The strange thing is that they show up the same way in my Zune software (and on my Zune) as well.

5. As for the track skipping, I haven't encountered it and neither have my roommates so I can't comment on it.

I don't mean to sound harsh or anything so don't take what I say as personal attacks, just take it as constructive criticism. The video was way too long. You took 10 minutes to explain something that could have been done in 1-2 minutes. Show an example of the laggy cover flow and show an example of the track skipping. That shouldn't take more than 2 minutes to do. Instead, we get to see 10 minutes of the same thing over and over again. Trim the video down and use a better quality camera. The screen couldn't be seen at all and it was a white blurry mess. If you want to make a impact with your video then you need to use something better than a camera phone. Modern day digital cameras are able to do pretty good video quality. I suggest that you figure out a way to set the camera down on a flat surface and use both hands when holding the iPod. That will stop the motion blur and allow the camera to focus on the iPod instead of being moved around a lot.

Again, don't take those personally or as if I am attacking you. If you want your opinions to be heard then you need to make them short, to the point, and make sure your opinions are heard in a well presented manner.

No problem. I wish I did have a better camera, and I've been kicking myself lately to go and get a better one. But this was a first for me you should also know. I'm not used to talking in front of cameras let alone striking any major points. :p

Thanks for the critique though, I really appreciate that. Just trying to show my love for electronics I suppose! Maybe when I have more time, I'll do an edit.

Now that's a bad iPod right there. It sounds like it is the most glitchiest iPod ever made. It could be because they rushed the 160GB HD's in them when they are new, and the fact that they're cutting manufacturing costs so they're making them cheaper now.

Ah, but feel free to watch my second video response, 1.0.1 fixed the problem. :)

That said, indeed, there are still more remaining bugs in the software than the total amount of bugs I've ever had in the other iPods I've ever owned/used.
There's no denying that they were clearly rushed, or something, because Apples QC was lacking on the launch.

Wow, the actual poster of the video posts here, I didn't know that.

It's good most of your big issues were fixed but the fact remains that the product should never have been released like that in the first place, there's no reasonable excuse for that.

Most of us here are above average of course. Or you could just not watch it. I looked at it, it looked fine and ten minutes is the limit over at youtube. Better than the cnet video about the same product with twenty second bumpers on the front and on the back and someone really not saying much throughout.

I'm glad it fixed the problem for you. I installed 1.0.1 before even putting the music on my Classic and mine is still crashing a lot.

That's not a glitch, that's incorrect tagging. I've never had items show up twice in coverflow that were tagged properly.

# 18 Re: A video on what I think about the iPod Classic
On the iPod Classic, albums that are tagged properly show up multiple times in CF because it does not handle compilations correctly.

# 19 Re: A video on what I think about the iPod Classic
That's because it sorts by artists and not by album or, at the very least, album artist.. It's not a glitch, but a poor choice.

All of mine are properly tagged and have the same artwork. Believe me, I have spent many, many hours tagging my lossless library and adding artwork to make sure they are perfect. iTunes will select the first four tracks off of a album then treat the later 6 tracks as if they were off of a different album. This is not for compilations either. iTunes does this for my best of (hed)p.e. album and many other albums by a single artist. So yeah, it is a glitch on my computer and I haven't found out why. The good news is that the Microsoft Zune software does the same thing. However, the Zune itself is smart enough to realize that those albums are the same.

It has nothing to do with the sorting (accept whenever you sort by artist). I can sort iTunes by album and it will show multiple cover art for the same disc. It really is annoying.

# 21 Re: A video on what I think about the iPod Classic
I have never had this problem. Any time I've seen an album show up twice under cover flow or any other way, it's because there is an mistake somewhere in the tagging.

Cover flow on iPod doesn't handle compilations correctly because it sorts the album art by artist: not album or album artist. I can't speak about why it does it in iTunes, but this is not a problem I have at all. Whenever I see multiple artwork, I check my tags and the problem is resolved. Whenever I sort by album or album artist, cover flow is flawless: no duplicates at all (again..unless of course, I have something tagged incorrectly...)

If you have a compilation... let's say a mixtape with multiple rappers and the album artist name is "DJ X", and you have

Song A - Artist is Jay-Z - Album Artist is DJ X
Song B - Artist is Ludacris - Album Artist is DJ X...

The album art will show up twice in cover flow on the iPod because it's not sorted by album or album artist, but by artist, i.e. Jay-Z and Ludacris. I don't see how that is a glitch...

# 22 Re: A video on what I think about the iPod Classic
I understand how compilations will show up. My issue isn't with compilations in iTunes but rather normal albums by one artist. I have the artist and album artist both filled in as the same along with every other aspect of the tag: track number, track number of, genre, year, disc number, disc number of, etc. All the tracks contain the same tag information except for the track title. Still, when sorting cover flow in iTunes by album, they show up twice. I can even sort the tracks by artist and I will see three or four different cover flow album art pictures.

It really is annoying and I know that other people are having this issue as well. All the songs are correctly tagged. It seems like it is a bug in iTunes that isn't affecting everyone. I have a iPod classic that pretty much runs flawlessly while I have read horror stories from other users. So I do understand that not all of us will experience the same issues. Still, I have had this issue ever since Apple added cover flow to iTunes and it is driving me nuts.
