First time Ipod user, need some help figuring some stuff out

I'm thinking about buying an Ipod Classic. I've never owned an Ipod of any kind before, and know very little about them.

I know it comes with a USB 2.0 cable. Does that mean it will connect and sync with my PC? I keep hearing about having to connect with something if you don't have a Mac.

I also keep hearing scary stories about Ipods not working or messing up. If I take care of my Ipod, do I have to worry about much of this stuff?

Thanks.

Indeed, it will sync.
Depending on the age of your computer, you might not get full USB 2.0 speed, but if you have USB ports and windows xp, it'll work, it might just be slower.

There's a few of us having some pretty annoying issues with the new classics, but it's likely just a bug.
Regardless of that, they are generally rather long lasting devices. I've had my other iPod for almost 3 years now, it's perfect. It's even hard drive based. IF you get a flash player, expect even BETTER longevity.

On the whole, yes, rather solid machines.

That said... Since I'm currently dealing with it, I'd wait a bit ti see how Appl ehandles the issues with the current iPod Classics crashing.

I have Windows Vista...they are compatible with that, right?

EDIT:

And how do the batteries charge? I don't have to buy a separate accesory for that, do I?

Yes, they are.

They charge over USB 2.0. If you want to charge it without a computer you'll have to either buy an AC adapter or perhaps a car charger.
