How does Scratch Remover works?

I'm sorry if this is the wrong section but other places are inactive.

I always wondered how AppleSauce or Brasso works on scratches. I thought scratches are tiny valleys on glasses and to get rid of it you probably have to fill it in but its too damn small.

My theory is that the polish removes a small microscopic layer of the plastic which also removes the scratch.

Anyone have an idea?

If that was true, using it over and over again would thin out your screen and it would be easier to crack the plastic from a blunt force.

True, but by that time, yer sick of this thing and wanna upgrade anyways (or the battery dies and yer too lazy to replace).

I imagine it's probably like how car wax works on CDs. It smooths out the edges of a scratch so it isn't as visible. The amount removed is microscopic otherwise you'd wear out the whole thing in just a few applications.
