So whats everyone doing for protection before Classic Cases become readily avail

I bought a 160 Classic but I cant really use it yet as I have no protection for it. Cases arent really available to my knowlegde here in the UK yet. My ipod is just sitting in its box on my desk.
Are you guys with Classics just keeping them in your pockets with no case or what?

80 Gig 5.5 and 60 Gig 5.0 cases should work.

but I am not going to worry too much, not put it in a pocket with keys or coins

Really? Can anyone confirm this? If so I will go to the apple store after work & get me a case.

Cheers

I have a Capdase leather flip-top case for the 60 GB/80 GB models and this is usable. But the device is a bit loose in it, because the 160 GB iPod is a little bit thinner than the iPod 5.5 80 GB. I think it's acceptable, but you should try out the cases yourself before buying.

re 5.5 cases working on the classic, I have a Belkin acrylic case and that protects the 160 gb classic I just got in that it fits (there's a mm or so gap, but the fit is so tight it doesn't rattle or anything.) Problem is due to differences in the click wheel, the plastic guard for that makes the wheel really unresponsive - so much so that its too annoying to use, so I've reverted back to that little neoprene case that came with the 5.5.

I think there are going to have to be design changes for most of the cases, including reducing the thickness of the wheel covers before any new cases come out.

My iPod Classic is still in the plastic sheet that came with it. Actually, I am hoping some company will come out with something like that with the holes cut out nicely for the port, hold and headphone jack.

Anyway, for those who have tried the InvisbleShield, will it protect even the sides and corners? If it does, won't the corners look ugly with the creases and stuff?

I was never a big fan of cases. I am constantly putting my iPod in a dock in my car or iHome, etc so a case was never an option. I always used the film protection like in the link below. Now with the iPod classic the screen is slightly sunk in on the ipod so when you put the screen protection on, the protector is flush with the rest of the iPod. Its like a disposable screen on my iPod. The only negative is you aren’t protecting the entire iPod, just the screen. But with the new metal faces, it’s not going to be very easy to scratch these new ones..

I really want an iSkin evo3 for my 80gb. is it a good fit?? And is the clickwheel still as functional with that thin layer of silicone protecting it??

I have an iSkin evo3 case, and the click wheel works fine through the silicon. I can actually adjust the volume through the material of my pants and the silicone of the iSkin. Basically the click wheel looses no functionality with the iSkin evo3. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend getting it. The only thing that i don't like about it is the fact that it is hard to toggle the hold switch on and off.

Do you have the new classic? I heard the click wheel sensitivity is different or not as sensitive as the 5g

Have you tried condoms? One size fits all iPods. And they're waterproof.

No, seriously, all my old cases for the 5G 60 fit the Classic 160 just fine. I wouldn't expect a whole new line of Classic cases too soon.

I've never use a case for my past iPods (3G, 4G, 5G) but this time; I only use a protective film to protect my LCD screen from scratch (bestskinsever). However, this time, I will have to add a case to my 80Gb ipod because it is just too thin that it is uncomfortable for my hands :o

I'm going to have to disagree with that. I like the iSkin cases very much, have two for my 3G and one for my Nano 2G. The size A (meant for the 30G 5G) fits just great on the 80G classic but the click wheel was totally inoperable through the silicon. Would not budge one little bit even if I used enough pressure to trigger the button portion of the wheel. I had to cut out the silicon circle. Having done a very careful job on that, I am very happy with the results. The only other downside it the evo3 is rather thick compared to the Nano skin. It takes away from the new slim design of the 80G. Not too big a deal, though.

Ha, I can see how people may misconstrue the thread title.

Well it looks like I gotta wait for a 6g evo3 case, as I don't trust myself with scissors, silicone and my iPod. Brings back kindergarten nightmares...

Anyone know of any cases similar to iSkin and preferably not hardcases?

wheel was not responsive whatsoever on my iskin. maybe get it to move liek 5% of the time.

I'm confused. Is the new iPod Classic provided/bundled with a pouch (like the 5th gen.) or not?

Just bought an iSkin eVo3 (the "old" 30GB case fits the new 80GB Classic perfectly) this morning and had the same problem a lot of other posters have had, namely that the click wheel was completely unresponsive through the silicone. The case fit great, just couldn't use the wheel at all. As others have done I carefully cut out the silicone "wheel" on the case with a razor blade and now all is good. Definitely something iSkin needs to figure out before they introduce the same case designed specifically for the Classic

I'm using a Belkin Aluminum and Plastic hardshell case, it was made for the 30gb 5.5g , but it fits the classic 80gb pretty much perfectly

im using some cling wrap wrapped around it a couple of times right now like i did my old one before i got a case. i had my last 80 gb ipod stolen, so i just got the 160 gb one, and i had an evo3 iskin case for my old one. was thinking about ordering one online to see if it would fit also, but dont want to take the chance. by the way i never had many problems with the click wheel on my old evo3 case, but it all depended on if my fingers stuck to the silicon or not. seemed to work easier at some times than others

just one data point: i was looking for a case for my new Classic 80GB
and was wondering about the highly rated Logic3 Crystal Armor case.
i contacted Logic3 who were very helpful. initially they said it
should be compatible with the case for the 30GB 5G ipod, after contacting
the actual manufacturers, they sent me the following response:

When placing the new 80 GB iPod classic into the Logic3 Crystal Case,
the click wheel / scroll becomes inactive, I believe this is due to the
new texture/finish on the iPod click wheel. Even though the iPod
Classic will fit into the Crystal Case, we do not recommend it for your
iPod because the iPod will not be fully functional while in the case.

i imagine that this might be an issue for most 5G cases that cover the
click wheel.

You can get a decent case for it from CoverCase. I got the new iPod classic 80GB and the leather case from them fits just fine and at $12 its the best I found. http://www.covercase.com
