Firewire trouble with iPod - Cant detect

Hi,

I'd just like to start off by saying that I'm relatively new to these forums and have had no experience whatsoever with iPods. Well... I got one today and I can't seem to have the computer detect it. I have two IEEE 1394 ports on my computer. When I plug the iPod into one of them, it is able to charge, but my computer doesn't recognize it in any aspect (no drive shows up, no plug-n-play beeping sound, etc). The same thing happens with my second firewire port, except that one doesn't even charge my iPod. What seems to be the problem here? Since the iPod charges properly from one of the ports, I suppose the problem isn't in the iPod or the wire. I have IEEE ports enabled in BIOS, and the port shows up in the Device Manager.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm running on Windows XP Home.

What kind of firewire card are you using?
