you just need a usb cable...it'll transfer slower but it will work once you get the usb cable

I don't know about that, but I think there might be away to make win 98 work with it check the FAQ they might have an answer for you.

Here's the FAQ on Windows98 and iPods:
I have Windows98 can I use it with the iPod even though Apple says I can't? ( http://www.ipodlounge.com/faqs_more.php?id=1602_0_10_0_C)

okay Firewire Card is similar to your USB 1.1, the difference is Firewire transfer music faster than USB, but it also can charge your iPod's battery at the same time, while it's hooked up to your computer. With the USB you can only transfer music, not charge. But inside the box, you will have the stuff needed to charge your iPod. But you will have to buy the USB cable.

You can buy a firewire card, and install that in your computer, if you wanted faster syncing and to also be able to charge. Though the firewire card is more expensive then the USB cable.

I have no clue about the patch sorry

Many thank, its becoming clear now. so if i don't want to cahrge the ipod up via firewire i can just use the usb (once i have a cable) to transfer music to it. i got an ac adaptor with it anyway and i suppose to get me running usb 1.1 will do...... what do you think

Sounds good, just make sure you can format or whatever your computer so that the computer can work with the iPod, but otherwise your all set, you can buy the cable at the apple store (or probably any store that sells iPods like Best Buy, for about $15)

Good Luck, if you have any more problems search the forums/ post another thread, there is always someone here to help :)
