15 gig questions
I know you guys HATE all the newbie question, but I couldn?t find the answers to these?
When I started upping songs to my 15 gig, I only had 13.8 gigs left. Did the system files that I-pod installs really take 1.2?
What is the realistic battery life on a full charge?
Thanks a ton?

The difference has to do with formatting and the way bytes are counted. Basically you get 13.8GB for a 15GB drive. I have a 120GB drive in my PC and it's 111GB formatted. This is just the way it goes.
I ran my iPod through my stereo this weekend, set on shuffle with the EQ on bass booster and I got 7.5-8.5 hours out of it. Unfortunately, I didn't pay close enough attention to what time I started playing.
Whenever you manually change songs, browse menus, play the volume really loud or use the backlight or eq you reduce your effective usage time. From what I can tell, 8 hours should be realistic if all you're doing is straight playing of songs. It can be equated to talk time versus standby time on a cell phone, where talk time is time skipping tracks or using backlight, and standby time is playing music without touching any controls.

Is there a better way of doing this w/o i-trip or the belkin home/audio things..I bought both and they sound really bad.

Actually yes, a nd it's not hard. The Dock your ipod came with has a stereo line out... What you need is a cable that has two male rca jacks on one end and one small male stereo jack that fits into your dock on the other end... You can get a monster cable at best buy for 20-30 bucks that does this, or you can even get a cable from walmart or radioshack that does the same thing for 5-6 dollars... the sound quality is onehundred times better than an itrip..

PS if you want to connect to a car stereo, it's just as possible, although it's a bit more complicated.

I bought the monster cables at the Mac store here in Sacramento last weekend...
Plugged them into our 15gig ipod and our home stereo system and "BAMMO"
instant jukebox...
your own songs...
no commercials!!!
