Time taken for iTunes to recognise and begin update?

I run Windows XP and have a 3G 20gb using the dock to sync via firewire port. It takes up to 3 minutes sometimes for iTunes to open, recognise my iPod and begin updating when the iPod is placed in the dock. Is this delay normal?

3 minutes is pretty slow. I haven't actually timed it, but I think mine takes about 20-30 seconds for iTunes to load and my iPod to show up in iTunes and begin syncing. I also run Windows XP and have a 3G 20gb iPod. I thought mine was slow...but not compared to what you are experiencing!pmoto at 2007-11-15 17:02:51 >

Yeah, thats about what I average if iTunes isnt already open. If I already have iTunes running when I place my iPod in the dock, it takes about 30 seconds to a minute.RoMoFo at 2007-11-15 17:03:51 >

Not alone then :D...The reason I asked was the my brother in law maintains his is recognised immediately. He uses a Mac...perhaps the Windows delay is by design :Djoni at 2007-11-15 17:04:49 >

mine takes like 10s to appear in my computer and another 5s for itunes, but i think it depends mostly on your motherboard, built-in firewire or not...Simp at 2007-11-15 17:05:55 >

About 15 seconds here.This is most certainly not delay by design, if you were implying that Apple slows down the Windows version. It's "delay by poor Microsoft handling of removeable devices," IMO.
Several of my removeable devices take a few seconds or longer to mount. :D
