Itunes questions from a Media Center user
How do former power Media Center Ipod users (ashawley to thread, please) make the adjustment to Itunes? There were several annoying aspects to Itunes- I loaded it on my computer the other day, and here are some items I really don't understand.
-can you create playlist folders in the left pane of Itunes? How do you organize all your playlists and smartlists? It struck me that that the pane would get overrun.
-Album art. Media Center searches for it, and appends it to a folder- this is nice b/c it doesn't boost each mp3 file's size by adding the artwork to it. It appears that in Itunes, you have to manually provide the artwork, and then the mp3 file's size is increased. There's an applescript to find artwork on the mac- what are Itunes windows users doing?
-Is there a way to add a pane for 'browsing' in Itunes that has the alphabet broken down, like A-C, D-F, etc?
-Random in playlists. In Itunes, if I create a smartlist for genre=rock, and sort it randomly, it shows up alphabetically in the resulting pane window. Why is that? Is it transferred to the Ipod that way? What's the use of random if it doesn't randomize it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

don't know about much of your question, but as to the last one...in order to randomize smart playlists, just click to sort on the far left (empty) column...
For browsing, it won't break it down in the way that you asked for, but if you haven't found it yet, the browse window is opened by clicking the "eyeball" in the upper right. It then lists artists alphabetically, and you can jump to any letter by typing it.

ok, but would I need to do this every time, or on every smartlist I create? Would the random on these lists always be the same?

I saw that- you still have to click into that window, when I did it my cursor focus wasn't automatically taken there. It didn't seem as intuitive as I would have liked, although I may have not done it right?

Try http://art4itunes.com/
It won't automatically tag all your song files but it will automatically search for the artwork on amazon and other sites and display them in your browser, from where you can drag and drop the artwork to itunes. Still requires manual legwork but at least it saves you some hassle.
