wav file in intunes,, i want an aac in ipod

i have wav files in my itunes.. how do i transfer them as an aac file to my ipod so i do not use up so much space?

As long as you're import prefs are already set to AAC, then highlight the tracks you want to convert and go to Advanced > Convert Selection to AAC.It will make copies into AACs while leaving the WAVs intact.
