about that. YTHe RIAAA gets around 50 cents. Thats the genaral royaltee agreements that tehy allow. Dont like it, buy a cd, they get the same percentage anyway.

pdjudd, this is not true. I, myself, have recorded solos and backups on Andrea McArdle's Christmas CD, and since I only sang on one song "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", I receive royalties only for that song whenever it's sold... 74 Cents. The RIAA does not get 50 cents... and also, it depends what record company you are dealing with.

A friend of mine is in a local band that is on all of the new download sites (not itunes :( ) but napster they make 5 cents, (50 cents to RIAA and 46 cents to napster. Rhapsody 30 cents - RIAA - 40cents and the artist 9.
So thanks to our good buddies at Metallica (the original haters of Music sharing) they can make a few cents off of us legals

The music industry gets about 65 cents from each tune sold at iTMS, which is why Apple isn't making any money on it (directly). As I understand it, the labels get the money, not the RIAA (remember Apple was signing labels one at a time). So as far as the artist goes, doesn't that depend on their contract with the label? Whatever it is, it's quite a bit less than 65 cents I guess.
