Add Selected Remote Tracks: can it actually COPY the song file?

From the description of "[ Remote - Add Selected Remote Tracks" (one of Doug's Remote Management Scripts v1.1):
"Add the files of the selected shared tracks on the remote machine to the iTunes on the local computer (the one the script was run from). In order to copy files from a remote volume, that volume must be mounted on the local machine..."
Is this script actually suppose to copy the song file from the remote machine to the local one? Or is it just suppose to add the song (the file is still on the remote machine) to a local Playlist/Library?

I'd like it to do the former, but right now, it only seems to be doing the latter.

If the script is only suppose to add the song to the Playlist and not actually copy any files, I'd appreciate it if the descriptions were updated to be less... "ambiguous"... (because calling it "misleading" sounds too harsh :).

Unless the assumption is that the "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" option in Preferences > Advanced is enabled?

Because if that's the case, it's an assumption that should really be in the Read Me. It would prevent people from asking questions they end up answering themselves. ;)

Now that we have that worked out, I'll use this space for a different question: is it possible to enable and disable this option using AppleScript? I don't like to keep this option on all the time because (1) I often preview files and don't want them copied, and (2) I hate the way that iTunes "organizes" files by creating Artist and then Album folders. Not only does it wreak havok with soundtracks, it's just messy.

On that subject: is there a way to change how iTunes creates these directories, or at least clean up after it? I like my Music library to be flat: all files at one level, no subdirectories. Help? :)

hi,

have done a quick scan of the itunes dictionary and that preference does not appear to be directly addressable.. also given iTunes complete refusal to respond to gui scripting then the answer to your first question is probably "No"

in answer to your second question, itunes is going to stick rips in an artist/album structure when it rips tracks or imports them.. the only option you then have is whether it keeps re-arranging things when you change the library info vie the "keep organised" preference option.. so you might be able to move the files into the order you want and with the keep organised option turned off add them to itunes.. but you would need to watch out for duplicates..

re sound tracks.. do you flag the tracks as compilations at all ? this would at least keep all the tracks together in single album folder inside your compilations folder.. would need to have the keep organised option on if setting this for existing tracks...
