How is the EXO2?
Thinking about the EXO2 skin. It looks like a great product (nice fit, heat dispersion, connector cover, overall protection). Are there any problems that I should know about?

Heat dispersion?
Where on earth did you get that from?
It's rubber - I would bet heat dispersion is not a property rubber is well known for.

The holes on the back of the EXO2 were designed, according to mfg., to disperse (dissipate or whatever word you want to use) heat from the unit. The pads on the back were designed to allow air to flow between the unit and the surface it is resting on.

I sense the discussion veering towards the "Case-on/Case-off" argument here ;)
The number of holes in the back of these cases numbers something like 30 odd of a few millimetres diameter each. The whole of the rear of the iPod is designed to transfer heat from the iPod. The actual 'open' area with the case on, is a fraction of the back of the iPod, so I would not rely on the holes and bumps to keep the temperature of your iPod down.
Just yhought I should clear it up...

isn't the heat issue only when transferring alot of files? the only time i notice is when there are gb's of music to move.

I would think playing for a long period of time, like a road trip, would produce a signifigant amount of heat as well...

So Madpict, if other cases don't even have the few holes that the EXO has, does that make the EXO a better case if one decides to use a case?

mrudd1,
Well, depends. Having holes to supposedly let heat escape also allows dirt, grit etc to get in, and think how you might lay the iPod down - on it's back. So if you go along that road I'd have to say no.
The holes are, in my opinion, a purely cosmetic 'sop' to placate the concerns of heat build up. You may as well use a silicon case with a unperforated back.
Having had a bit of a scare using my old Groove Jacket, where I recharged it via an auto charger lead on a 30 minute drive and on unplugging it found it to be red hot, I have always since advocated the following of Apple's advice on both charging and syncing - remove the case, whichever case it may be.
The increasing occurrence of iPods 'splitting' does make me wonder if this is due to them being charged in their cases - the expansion rates of the metal back and plastic front will be different and may be just different enough to cause the case to pop open.

So then you would recommend a case that seals the IPod in from the elements, and just take it out when charging or transferring files?

i would...i know it's a pain, but it will be worth it in the long run. this is not a cheap toy we're dealing with here. I'll do whatever it takes to prolong the life and looks of my ipod. Even if it means putting/keeping it in it's exo2 while in the house, removing it to charge it and then put it in a lilipod when i have to venture out.
the things we do for love. sheesh. I don't even baby my lexus this much.

mrudd1,
It depends on how you intend using your iPod. If it's going to be thrown into a bag on a daily basis then I would go for something which encloses it and protects it from bangs and scratches. Most leather cases with front covers might do. Solid, as in no 'vent' holes might do.
If you want to stuff it into a trouser pocket then a silicon case may not be ideal as they attract lint and dirt, and grip so could make taking it out a slight struggle.
I really like the look of the Booq nylon cases, and the Xtrememac Xtremity system case. I use an Xtrememac Deluxe case for my 5GB and must say it serves the purpose well. My Groove Jacket now sits in a drawer.

got my Lajo Exo2s for gf and I on 40g iPods.
Great grips, great looks, decent protection. heat not a problem yet.
I dont' think heat will ever be a real threat.
We love using the cases! (though a clip would be great...)

I used to have an iSkin Exo 2 Arctic. The official review here in ipodlounge is pretty accurate. The only thing I was really worried about and wanted to test for myself is the lint attraction problem. That includes hair and other small stuff too.
The iSkin Exo 2 attracts lint, dirt and hair in an average manner, still it annoyed me. With this problem the Arctic showed to look dirty. Other colors may look not so dirty.
I have now switched to the Speck Flip Case. It gives way more protection than the skins too.
