iPod blank and not responding!!

Ok here's the problem:
I have a 30gig 3g & I reformatted it after having some previous problems. It looked as if the entire thing was going fine until I plugged it into a external power supply. It then turned blank. after this I took it out of my dock to examine it.

It was then making a soft ticking noize!!! I mean, I dont know much about the hardware of hardrives, but they don't make noises do they?!?

So I try play/pause & menu to restart, and I get nothing...nothing.

After examining it, I tried switching the hold, and ran through the process of restarting it all over again. It then started HUMMING softly!

I don't know what's going on, but previous posts have stated some similar problems, but I'd like to fix this problem myself if possible.

If anyone has any solutions, PLEASE HELP ME.

-Oh, and I should add that I tried connecting my iPod back to my windows, and nothing responded.

I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I can't help with your problem, but yes a hard-drive (like most other mechanical devices) can and will make some noise as it's operating.

Ok so here's the update:

I ended up taking it to the local apple store, and they confirmed that is was in fact not working. The then gave me a brand new 30 gig.
I find that this is great because I get 2 extra months of battery life, if you think about it.
Tech support was CRAP, but the guys at the Apple store were AWESOME. I love you guys, and thank you SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!
