Why use the docks line out, instead of the headphone jack?
I'm no audio expert, but I'm obviously missing something :) Can anyone explain? Is it just to save power?

The dock line-out is to be used when hooking the iPod up to a home stereo system, it should not be used with headphones as you won't have any way of controlling the volume.

The line-out bypasses the headphone amp allowing for an external device to power the signal (which is usually of a higher quality than the iPod's amp) resulting in better sound quality.
