problems with software restore

hi there,

i got a brandnew ipod-mini, it actually seemed to work fine, but once i plugged it into my mac, it immediately lost all the data stored on it.. so i downloaded "iPod Software 2.1 Updater" and hit the restore button. well.. the restore process starts, but after a while it gets stuck, and i get an error message.. something like "unexpected error occured". then i get a window with the option to initialize the disk. after i press the button osX diskutility opens.

what should i do now? initialize it?

has anyone experienced the same problem?
does anyone know how i can solve it?

best regards.

iPod Software Updater 2.1 is for the iPod (3G), not the iPod mini.

For the mini software updater, use the CD that came with your mini.
