Note to self: If ever in UK never use white earbuds. Wow, is it really that bad in the UK?

You're more likely to have your cellphone ripped off than have your iPod nicked.
People wander around openly using their phones to text or chat oblivious to the mugger following them, just waiting for the right moment to snatch it - like just as you get onto the underground, they jump on behind you, bump into you, then as the doors start to close, they jump off. You do a quick check of your pockets and find your ?300 phone has gone.
iPods are usually carried in a case strapped to a belt or in a inner pocket. True the white earbuds give a hint you may have something valuable, but most thieves are opportunists and prefer to make it quick and reduce the chance of getting flattened by a rugby playing good samaritan.
But as with anything, just be aware of your surroundings - it's a jungle out there.

No, it's not that bad here - but it's like walking down a main street in London with your bag open...if someone is looking for opportunity then someone with the white buds will be a target. I bet the same thing goes on in the middle of Manhattan, in fact any major city. You just have to have your wits about you. Of course the fact that you're listening to music when walking down the street means that you can't hear your attacker behind approach you. Another reason why I don't wear my buds when on the street.

Of course the simplest way is to replace them...I'm buying the Senhieser MX100s which sound far far better than the standards 'phones, and they don't look anything special from the outside.

one of the main reasons you buy the iPod is to show it off and be unique with white earbuds esp if you have the ex71's...
if you didnt want to show it off why not just buy one of the other hardrive based players which in most case's are cheaper and do alot more...

i'm pondering whether to get new white or black ex-71's, i hear they're good and stylish, like my iPod is good and stylish i would love to have white ex-71's, but i really worry about someone seeing the white and come and beat me up for my precious. sayin that if someone did i'd give them all i had to protect it, with current fears, what would everyone else do, black ex-71s or white ex-71s?

Like I say, I just bought some black ones for two reasons. Firstly I didnt want to stand out too much from the crowd, and white phones do that. Secondly, I didnt want to wait for white ones to get sent from japan :)
