Generations

Hi all,

I've been reading through various threads on the forum, and i've noticed a lot of reference to 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation ipods...can anyone tell me how i can tell whichgeneration iopd i have? I've only bought mine a few days ago (a 20gb one) so does this mean it's a 3rd gen? or has the 3rd gen not been released yet?

Also, i've noticed mention to updating ipod software: does the itunes software need to be updated as well as the actual ipod software - or does the itunes update do this for you? ..how can u tell which version of itunes you have? and what's the latest version? and if i DL an update does my current library stay in tact?

Thanks for any answers!

Do you have 4 buttons in a row above the scrollwheel, or four buttons located around the scroll wheel?

If you bought your iPod new from apple.com or any store its going to be a 3rd generation (...unless you got ripped off).

Heres a picture I made of what the difference of the two generations is...

i think the buttons on the 3g are a bit bigger in proportion to the rest of the ipod

also, i like the bevel and emboss you did on the text... now learn to draw
