my dad sometimes wants to put his songs on my ipod, wots the quickest way to delete these songs of the ipod. can u put songs in a playlist but leave them out of the libary

Delete songs off the ipod quickly? Select them and go to Edit > clear OR use right mouse click > clearAll songs in playlists are stored in the library.

That will work for manual update I think Gina, but not if you are on autosync.On autosync you will either have to uncheck the song (if you have update check songs only selected in preferences) or remove the song from the library.
Alternatively you can update by specific playlists and remove songs you don't want on the iPod from those playlists that you are updating.
