So what did you do with your cds now?
I'm on my 6th day with IPOD and should finish copying all my cd's in the next few days. Question, is now: do I keep the cd's or sell em?
Cd collection lots get a pretty penny on ebay, i'm seeing so far.
So what did you all do? Keep or sell your cd's?

mine are on some shelf collecting dust
# 2 Re: So what did you do with your cds now?
If you sell them, and keep the music on your iPod, that's illegal. :o
If you ever need to re-rip the music for any reason, you're screwed. Reasons such as: bad rips (which has happened to me a few times), new/better formats in the future, etc.
People are very shortsighted, it seems. ;)
Anyway, I keep my CDs on a shelf like I always have. I suspect most everyone else keeps their CDs on shelves as well.

I am actually just getting into buying CD's now. It is a much better way then just getting a digital file which is very volatile.
They are being used in the car quite often now.

What do I do with CD's now? Same thing I've always done -- I play the darn things, ain't that what you're supposed to do? Just no more discman :)
# 5 Re: So what did you do with your cds now?
My cds are really just collecting dust, but I won't sell them because I may need to reload them on a computer again someday.
wouldn't want to risk losing all my music to a dead computer!

I have the iPod hooked up through the AUX input in the back of the radio. BMW/MINI has a cable that hooks it right up and now it plays over the stereo AUX setting.
The above link is to a brief thread that has some pictures and info. We had a longer, dedicated thread to the MINI cooper iPod install before the site crash but it was lost.
Look at that thread, ask any more questions there as myself or Volki (another Mini owner) will respond.
goodluck! (the mini cooper rocks!)

Keep the cds. It would be really sad if your computer died and you lost all your music. If you sell the cds you don't own the music anymore and don't have the right to store it on your iPod either.

My CD's are hanging out, I use them in the car from time to time and if I am playing them in my stereo in my house.

Same here. I've bought more Cds since i've owned my iPod than I have in the past 2 years!! And I've discovered some old CDs I never new I had. Once I've ripped them I store them in my cd case. I like having the hard copy. I have all mine in two 250+ Cd cases and store the plastic cases. I've lost or thrown away the rest....
And you know what is a dead horse? Illegal music...so WHAT if he ripped all of his music and then sold them. How do YOU know thats illegal? Do you suppose that if it is that it will stop him from selling his PAID FOR CDS? Please ppl, let the horse RIP. Almost every third post has someone saying "thats illegal".

So what if he lost the cd, broke it or his house burned down? He doesn't have them anymore, does he have the right anymore? Put a sock in.........

All my CD's are either in the car or sitting in a drawer somewhere around here... Most of them are in the car, though. I haven't ever gotten around to hook my iPod up to the car, so I just use CD's there. I have DEFINATELY enjoyed buying CD's more since I got my iPod, since it seems like Christmas everytime I import new music to my pod to listen to it. :) I have much more motivation to buy, too.

I have my cd's scattered in binders and in woden crates. I lost my jewel cases in 99' (long story) so to display them would be to invest a couple hundred on new jewel cases and a display. I think ultimatly they will just go into binders.
# 15 Re: So what did you do with your cds now?
Mine are all in binders and were tucked away in a closet until myhusband got his mini last week, now he is going through and ripping everything he wants, then they will go back in the closet.

do what i did... get rid of the case's they take up to much space buy a few of these
http://www.caselogic-intl.com/images/p27558B.JPG
all ive done is keep the sleves and backs and stuck them in a big plastic crate under the bed. i currently have over 500 cds and they are in 3 files of 256 which really takes no space at all compered to the cds stacked on shelves

# 17 Re: So what did you do with your cds now?
I haven't had my iPod very long at all but I seem to find myself wanting to get more CDs, mainly because unlike before I know I can listen to which ever one I want when I'm on the Train or just out somewhere. You don't have to make your mind up anymore which select few your gonner take with you and sometimes you find yourself wanting to listen to something you haven't dragged out for a couple of years.
# 18 Re: So what did you do with your cds now?
95% of my CD's are sitting on a shelf next to my Rotel/B&W home stereo. They still come out to play.
I hook the iPod up to said stereo when we have guests over to make use of its flexibility, but when I want to play at 'audiophile' it is the CD's all the way.

# 20 Re: So what did you do with your cds now?
If there was only 1-2 songs on them that I cared about, I ripped them and sold the CDs. If I like the whole CD, I store it away. Once I get my playlist to the point where I have enough music with 3-5*s, I'll back up to a disc and store it away. Some stuff I like now but know I won't care if I lose it. When I move (in a few months) I will probably sell the rest. I hate excess clutter. I may opt to iTunes or some similar downloading pay per song deal cuz I hate clutter and the less junk about, the less clutter.
