Iskin mini first impression
The iSkin is shipped inside the clear plastic ipod size zippered bag that they are throwing in as a free premium if you order from the iskin.com site. I ordered the Sonic (blue) iSkin.
The skin ships with a small color instruction pamphlet that tells how to attach the belt clip, though mine came with the clip already attached. The instructions are still necessary if you want to remove the clip. Because there are no slits in the top or bottom it wasn?t immediately apparent how to insert the mini. Again, the instructions showed with photos that the mini is inserted through the screen opening. Because the case has a lot of give, this was no problem.
It was easy to insert the mini through the screen opening and position it properly. All the cutouts lined up well leaving the clickwheel exposed and easy to operate.
The bottom of the case has the dock connector cutout hinged so it covers the connector when the cable is not in use. It is easy enough to flip the cover to expose the connector.
The top cutouts for the headphone/accessory jack and the hold switch are well placed leaving enough room to operate the hold switch. The top has a slight ridge around the front and back edge to keep provide additional padding if dropped. The bottom of the case provides a thicker area of silicone, again to provide extra padding.
The back of the case has small holes cutout for heat dispersion. It also has four mini feet molded into the case to keep it elevated when laying on it?s back.
The sides have little bumps starting at the halfway point and going to the top to provide some extra gripping surface.
The screen protector comes as a separate piece in a small ziplock bag. It is installed after the mini is inserted in the case. It is molded to fit precisely over the screen and through the cutout and has four little rubber feet in the corners to keep the protector elevated above the screen. It is easy to insert and seems stable.
The only problem I have had is with the belt clip. When I first tried to attach it to my belt, the clip fell apart from it?s backing. Examining the back of the clip I noticed that two of the small teeth that hold the clip to the backing were missing and a third was broken. I have contacted iSkin to see if they will replace that piece.
Other than the clip issue (which is not minor), I am impressed with the quality.
FOLLOW UP: I emailed iSkin this morning regarding the broken belt clip. They responded quickly and are sending a repaclacement clip in the mail. Very good customer service.
