Cant afford case? Try these...
I've posted several (well received, I hope) suggestions here and on the Apple forums. Here's a consolidation. If you can't afford a case right now, here are some ways to protect your mini that are free or very low cost.
- Keep it in a sock. Toddler size tube socks are just right. You can thread a shoelace through the top and make a drawstring, or just use a rubber band to keep the sock closed.
- Use a jeweler's bag. Most "fancy" jewelry stores give jewelry bags with purchases of necklaces. A medium sized one (the kind they give with pearls) is just right.
- Use an old eyeglass case. Pad the unused area with cotton balls to keep the mini from sliding around.
To make any of the above waterproof, put the whole kit into a ziplock bag.

I use something similar to a jewelry bag, but it's really made for cellphones. Fits perfectly.

This may sonud wired, but a condom would work to. A non lubed one of course... It wouldn't provide much shock protection, but it would avoid light scratches.
I only mentioned this because a friend of mine actually used on for her phone in the rain.. and decided to keep it.
No... I don't have pics :)

i'd say that if you are out buying pearls you can probably afford a $20 case.
But i might be wrong. Sorry to everyone if i am wrong.

It is because I purchased the pearls that I cannot afford a $20 case. ;)
# 10 Re: Cant afford case? Try these...
Check the cases at eBay.
There are lots of deals over there.

I was looking at Best Buy at pda cases for my iPod cause the ones that would provide shock protection seem much cheaper than the iPod equivant...any one recommend one to me?

Hi, my niece's new husband of of only a few days, due to his recent and sudden call for duty in the US Army National Guard to soon be deployed to Iraq, as a part of "Operation Iraqi Freedom". No, it wasn't a shot-gun weddin' but since they got hitched in Las Vegas I'm sure Elvis was there! ;) He loved my 30 GB iPod and I thought hey, that'd be a great wedding/going away gift! So, I and my family pitched in and bought him an iPod mini. I ordered it from the Apple Store and had it laser etched with part of the message saying.."Come home safe!" Well, he wanted the mini which due to the overwhelming demand, I'm not sure that we'll even get it before he leaves, Apple claims it will be shipped on or before 5/18/04. So we both started to look for some accessories and of course I told him to visit the lounge! ;) He loved the iPod Armor but as yet I haven't seen one for the mini! In a search for another cool gift for him I got a Platinum GameBoy Advance SP as a nice side kick to his Silver iPod mini. We had a small private party this past Saturday and I was hoping that we could present him with the 'Pod but instead he got a GameBoy but with a promise of a 'Pod. Sorry for the long story but anyways I ran across this lil' GBA SP accessory that with very minor mods, like mostly trimming the foam inside, would be a great and cheap er, I mean inexpensive substitute of iPod Armor for all generations of ipods including the mini! What is it?I picked up a "Mad Catz ArmorCASE SP" for the GBA and one for the mini and I may go back to my local video game store and pick up one for mine too! They look tough, pretty cool and have that "diamond plate"surface made of aluminum. It feels very sturdy, and they even come in colors but I'm not sure how many different ones, although I did see one in a medium shade of blue. Plus, it was only $9.99! Check out the link below for more info and or just stop by your local Game Stop, Electronics Boutique, or even a department store that handles GBA games and accessories. If you're skeptical I'll see if I can round up a pic or two later on. Thanks for taking the time to read my first post here @ the 'lounge.
