Microdrive question.
Hey -
I was just wondering. I have a 354MB microdrive and it's a flash memory card. The 4gig one that's in the minis, is that a flash card too? Becuase if it was, it would be totally skip proof and be better on the battery. Does anyone know for sure?
Thanks

your 354MB microdrive is not flash memory - it is a mini hard drive with mechanical and spinning components in a compact flash form factor. The microdrice used in the ipod mini is just bigger.

No, you can't do that.
People have been swapping out drives in the Creative 4gb [a 4gb drive costs 400+ alone, so they take the 4gb from the player out to use in digital cameras, and put in smaller, cheaper drives they were using the cameras] but it doesn't work with the iPod. You can take it out just fine but the one going in needs to be specially formatted.
And I don't think you can stick a CF card in where a HD is supposed to be anyway.

I don't know. I've only talked to a friend who is into digital photography.
Here's a thread from dpreview.com where people are trying it.
