I already have a 10GB 3G iPod, but I have a mini on the way. Will I have to install software off of the CD that comes with it? Or can I just plug it in? And if so, it won't mess with any of my current iPod settings will it?

Depending on the version of iTunes you're currently using, you may or may not need to update iTunes via the iPod Mini installation CD.

No, updating your current iTunes software shouldn't screw-up any of the preferences that you currently have set.

I have a 3g iPod, and now my hubby has a new mini. We didn't have to install iTunes, the version that I was using on my computer works with both the mini and the 3g.But, if you are running Windows, you will have to install the updater for the mini from the cd. This will format the mini for working with Windows. the updater for the 3g's won't work with the minis.
