ipod dilemma
So I've finally convinced my mom to let me get an ipod but I don't know which one to get. I either want an ipod mini or the 15GB regular ipod. I think I could easily fill up the ipod mini so I guess I should get the other one. But the minis are just so cute! Also this may be a really dumb question but I was wondering if you could I guess delete songs off you ipod once you have put them on there.

Well...I was faced with the same decision. I have more than enough MP3's to fill the 15GB iPod...but I really liked the mini, it's size, style...and the new click wheel. The way I looked at it...is out of the 1,000 songs you can put on your mini...how many are you really gonna be able to listen too...surely not all in one sitting...and I often listen to a few songs over and over...and yes, you can delete songs from it, and put some new ones on...switch around, etc. So...I can always put other songs on if I want...take some old ones off...within a matter of seconds. So I really don't need to put 15 GB of my MP3 collection on an iPod...because I'll really end up justlistening to a few songs...I bought an iPod for an MP3 player...not a Storage unit.
So I'm glad I bought the mini....I like it much better than the regular iPod.

If you really like the style of iPod mini then wait till Apple release 4th generation iPod, probably around May. Probably they will go with iPod mini design like having anodized aluminum case and a click wheel.

May?! Woah, how do you know?
# 4 Re: ipod dilemma
he doesnt know...that the thing...i bet they dont mess with the ipod design for awhile.

HAHA There's no way they would redesign the whole iPod line to look like the mini, especially only 3 months after it's release...then it would kinda defeat the whole purpose! If the regular iPod looked just like the mini, had the same click wheel, and had the much bigger drives...nobody would buy the mini!

Well theres a lot of complaints about iPod case being so easily to scratch to they gave the new iPod mini a anodize aluminum case. They might go with anodize aluminum on their next iPod line. I said May because 3G iPod was release May of last year.
nobody would buy the mini!
iPod mini is smaller and less fragile than its big bro iPod which uses 1.8" hard drive.

I know the size difference...I own one. What I'm saying is...if the regular iPod, had the same casing, design, click wheel, started at 15 GB, and was only $50 more (for the 15 GB)...even if it is 40% bigger than the mini (let's not forget, the regular iPod is pretty small already)...people would have a hard time seeing why to buy the mini.
The mini's size is not it's only selling point...it's the casing, design, colors, click wheel...you take those all away...and it's not as apealing.
Maybe in the future...we'll see the regular iPod get a aluminum case...but don't look for it to be anytime soon.

I have a 15gb g3 iPod, and I just bought my husband a mini for his birthday (arrived last Thursday).
I prefer his mini to my g3. (Don't think I'll get him to swap though!) It's enough smaller in size to definitely make a difference, and he gets quite a bit better battery life than I do. As mentioned before, the case doesn't scratch as easily, and it's not nearly as easy to accidently "push" one of the buttons on the mini.
The only drawback to the mini is the smaller HD, but really 4gb is plenty of music/audiobooks to carry around at a time!

If you don't need the space, go with the mini... but then again, I like being able to backup my entire hard drive and transfer photos from cameras on trips... the mini's *are* pretty cute, though!

get the 10 gbs on clearance at www.apple.com
# 12 Re: ipod dilemma
I was just faced with the same decision and I opted for the mini...
Although I am not excited about having to wait 3 weeks for it when I could have a 15gb tomorrow.
# 13 Re: ipod dilemma
i have a 30gb and a mini... if i were forced to choose, i'd get rid of the 30 and keep the mini (even though i have over 30gbs of music)... my mini has 64 hours of music... 64 HOURS! that's SO MUCH! oh man... do you have any clue how much music that is? SO FREAKING MUCH!

i was also faced with the same decision! i htink because of the mini there are a lot of new mp3 buyers, and they are are looking for the "perfect" mp3. no mp3 is going to be just the way u want it. i suggest making a list of all the things u are lookin for in an mp3 and then do sum reasearch. i ended up getting the mini because it matched most of the things on my list. aka: price, style, amount. ect.
