Alpine CDM-7833 to an ipod. Is it possible?

I have an alpine CDM-7833 and a 30g ipod. I picked up a KCM-122B M-bus to RCA cable. I cannot get the Alpine to recognize my ipod. Is there a work-around for this or do i have to buy a newer Alpine?
