Cassette Adapter Problem with Imp Line Out

I'm using a cassette adapter to integrate my iPod into my car stereo. I bought a SIK IMP because it offered a line out capability. Problem is when I plug my cassette adapter into the line out, the sound is very broken. It's obviously too much signal for the cassette. I have to plug the cassette adapter into the top of the iPod (headphone connection) and adjust the iPod volume to about 80% to get the sound about right.

Any one else have this problem? Is this normal, or is there a problem with the IMP, the cassette adapter?

Using:
30GB iPod
Radio Shack Cassette Adapter
SIK IMP
'98 Cadillac Seville STS with Bose factory stereo.

Thanks for your help!

The cassette adapter is not intended to accept a line-level input...that is why it has a headphone plug. They were specifically designed for using portable CD players in cars. Thankfully, they also work well with the iPod, just not with the line-out feature of the 3rd Gen iPods.

I get a similar problem using the line out on the monster charger with the sony cassette adapter - distortion, just like i used to get with the EQ before mp3gaining my files. And just like u said - plugging the cassette adapter into the headphone jack avoids the distortion problem - weird huh? worse sound throught the line out than the headphone jack
