It turned out this solution was cheaper than my original plan. Which was to buy a new JVC CD based MP3 head unit with a 12 disc MP3 CD changer. The iPod solution got me 15 gig for about $50 less than the 9 gig or so from the JVC solution. Plus I can use the iPod out of the car of course.
