Shure headphones

Hello there. I am newish to the iPodlounge and would appreciate your help on a problem of headphones/earphones for my iPod mini. I have tryed the supplied headphones, and, like many, have rejected them. They hurt to wear... Anyway, I would like to find some kind of good sounding head/earphone that is not above $150. I have heard some of the Shure's are good, and as I will be listening to my iPod in the car a lot (as a passenger) the sound isolation may be good...?). But I know these go into the ear canals so, do they do any damage in there? Would any of them sit me (a 13 year old)? Or any other suggestions for head/earphones which will meet my above requirements will be greatly appreciated...
Thankyou very much in advance!
Jack.

Of course they won't damage your ears in any way (unless you crank up the volume too loud).

The Shure's come with several different sleeves (of various sizes) to help in the quest for the perfect seal. So chances are, one of them will fit your ears.

Thankyou.
Just a couple more questions:
What is the comfort like on the earphones that enter your ear canal?
Are the Entomics and Shure's the same... if not what are the differences?
Thanks

The Shure earphones are VERY comfortable. Especially with the foam sleeves. After a couple times of wearing them, you won't even notice they're there. The sound isolation is amazing (which could be good or bad), but I would certainly recommend them. I have the E2's, but I'm kind of wishing I had ordered the E3's now. I'm very satisfied with my E2's, but I just really want to hear how good the E3's sound. You definitely can't go wrong with Shure though.

Thanks for all your help - but i'm still not quite sure how the Shure's (I am looking at the E2's) go into your ear and fit well without beinf uncomfortable... Looking at pictures of them they look like you have to sort of.. force them down your ear canals. I am sure that I will have no problems with sound quality, but I am still not sure (no pun intended!) about putting them in and damaging the eardrum with them. If someone could tell me how they go in and/or re-assure me I would be very greatful.
Thanks

Jack,

Trust me, you will not damage your eardrums with either the Ety or Shure earphones, they simply do not extend far enough into your ear to get close enough to your eardrum to damage them.

e-t-y-m-o-t-i-c. Get the Shure E2C's. u dont have the $$ for Ety's. They wont do anything to your ears. Why would the FCC approve of them if they did damage to you? LOL :D They are very comfortable. you wont regret it. good luck ~Jeff

Well, I'm still not convinced on the e3c's. Yep they sound very good. Bass is really clean (dependant on source) but I'm not sure I can live with the "in-your-head" listening experience. Yep they would be great on a plane, but not ideal if you have to have even the slightest amount of interaction with the outside world. Comfort wise, the foamies seem to be the best (don't get on with any of the other sleeves).
I'm sorry to say, but the most comfortable and pleasurable listening experience has got to be the Bose Triports I sold to a friend :-(
So, here's the challenge...
A comfortable, closed, fairly portable headphone that can be driven from an Pod without an amp. Been tempted by the Grado's, but from what I've heard, they aren't the best for public places (unless you do like annoying the general public) and aren?t the most durable. Tried the Sennheiser PX200 and they were really uncomfortable. Anyone tested the Sennheiser HD25?s?
Any other suggestions?

How about maintenance? I was looking through earphone diagrams referring to wax guards and nozzles. Are these things going to need replacement? If so, how often? Every month? Every year? What about the foam pieces? How much do replacement parts cost?

I'm trying to figure out what the hidden costs are here.

The e3's dont have the wax guards those are only for the cheaper version. :) only hidden cost is going to be more foamies if you like those.

As I've said b4, I wear my E2cs everyday for at least 3 hours and 5, 6 maybe 7 hours each Saturday an' Sunday. I assure you, I wouldn't wear 'em if they weren't comfy. Since I listen to books 95% of the time, their slight acoustic ineffiency ( compared to the expensive phones ) isn't a consideration. And my occasional classical music forays seem to sound jus' fine.

As usual, my 2 cents worth! ;-)

Well I have just finished a pair of cross USA flights (DC to SF and back/DC to Cabo San Lucas and back) with my new joy toy my iPod + E5c. I have been traveling for years with cassettes (remember those?) and lately with a Sony CD walkman + Panasonic noise reduction headphones.

During these two trips I kept switching between the supplied Apple and the E5c's and of course there is no comparison. I will go so far as to say that the experience of listening to an iPod with these babies is the most perfect listening experience I have ever had short of a live concert.

Perfect bass. Sparkling highs and moments where I thought I was hearing some songs for the first time!

There is a downside. Yeah the 40GB iPod is $$$ and the E5c's are well an extravigance to say the least. But it isn't the price of the package that is the minus but the awful truth that perfect audio reproduction carries the curse of also letting you hear everything. Flaws and all in the recording.

That said, there is no portable music combination made today that can be as satisfying as being able to carry around ALL of your favorite tunes and to listen/share them at the spin of the wheel.

Is there really that big a qualitative difference between the e5c and the e3c's, when there is such a quantitive difference in price!

Im thinking of buying some shures for cycling so would like the best possible quality at a good price.
