Not the avg Senn-Sony-Shure Fight - This is about STRICTLY COMFORT!
Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. OK -
everyday i check this board for the usual fights about sound quality from the audiophreaks and price problems for the little people --
after about 1 hour of wearing the default apple-phones i feel like i have to ice my inner ear -
I am curious what you all think about the diff in-ear earphones STRICTLY BASED ON COMFORT!
now i know everyone's got diff sized and shaped ears and that's a beautiful thing, but i am sure that if we get enough opinions one set will stand out as the most comfortable.
I dying here! OUCH!

Sennheiser HD580s, $159 from Amazon.com
Arguably the most comfortable headphones you will find. I am wearing them right now, and it feels like cashmere pajamas.

listen Hef, we're talking "IN-EAR" phones -
(obviously the over-ears are tops in comfort, but im looking for inconspicuous/unobtrusive subway phones...head cans need not apply)

I think my Senn MX-400s are comfortable. I always noticed the stock Apple buds, but rarely notice the Senns.

I won't be so presumtious as to claim they're the very mos' bestest, but I wear my E2c Shure fones 6 er 7 hours/day on weekends. If they weren't comfy, I'd be lookin' fer something else!
As usual, my 2 cents worth! ;-)
Listening to SK's "IT" as we speak, will have 14 to 16 hours or mo' of the E2cs b4 the weekend's out, if I get my way!

If you're talking about earphones and canalphones, then you would look no further than Bang and Olufsen A8s. By far, the lightest and most comfortable earphones you can wear. These are like wearing cashmere pajamas with a big breasted blond twins on each arm. Go to a B&O store and try them out. Or buy my used ones.
If you are looking for canalphones, then they are pretty much all equal in terms of dis/comfort once you get over the sensation of sticking something into your ears. But between Shures and Etys, definitely go with the ER-4Ps for sound quality.

i would say that the sony ex71 are probably the most comfy, as people replace the e2 tips with the ex71 tips to improve them...
(i own the e2s and dont find them great for comfort to be honest)

I've had the EX71s, E2s, E3s, and ER-4Ps. The EX71 might be the most comfortable, but it really isn't comparable to the other 3 in terms of quality. I did put the EX71 tips on my E2s, which improved the comfort, but I eventually took them off because the isolation was so poor.
Of the high-end, I would say the E3s are the most comfortable... if just for the weight aspect. They are very light. The gray tips are very comfortable, too. These days, though, I use triple flange.
I'd be careful about confusing initial comfort with long-term comfort. With the exception of the gray tips on the E3, I don't think any of the in-ear phones are very comfortable initially. But for most people, you get used to it. The Etys were by far the least comfortable of the ones I had, but after a week of using them, I never thought about it.

I use the soft tips from the kind-of similarly designed Sony $150 noise-cancelling earbuds (which I believe are the same as on the Sonys you are considering) on my e2s as well and found them to be much more comfortable than Shures clear and foamy tips. I could not detect any significant isolation differences between the three tips...but I probably don't have the bat-sensitive ears a lot of audiophiles have. Maybe it depends on the size of the tips you choose...I read that you may need larger than you think you do to create the right seal rather than a smaller one that goes further into your ear but may not seal correctly. I prefer the e2s sound over the Sonys and they definitely stay in better due to the over-the-ear aspect. Also, the Sonys gave me an uncomfortable sensation of increasing pressurization in my ears I don't get with the e2s. Maybe that was part of noise-cancelling mechanism, Sonys design, or maybe I have weird air-sucking earcanals, but I found I had to break the seal to relieve the pressure quite often. I never have to to do that with the very same tips on the e2s. Anyway, you can always buy the Sony tips separately online if you end up with the e2s. Good luck!

thanks team,
the order's been placed -
i went with the EX71's b/c they were 31 bucks on amazon - couldnt pass that up - i figure if i ultimately have to shell out $150 on phones, whats another 30 for the chance of saving --
[there's gotta be a store where you can sit and try on all these diff phones before shelling out the kind of green associated with the higher quality ear phones]
ANYWAY.....
we'll see how it turns out
thanks again
