AAC to MP3?
I was wondering if anyone knows about a good AAC to mp3 converter out there. I need to load some mp3's onto my old mp3 player, and I really don't want to re-rip my CD's.
Thanks!

I'm unaware of any AAC to MP3 batch converters. MP3 Rage will do that for any format except AAC. They're promising AAC support soon.

In iTunes go to Edit > Preferences.
Click Importing tab.
Change Import Using to MP3 Encoder and select a bitrate.
Now when you right-click your AAC files it will give you an option to convert to MP3.
Alternatively, you can download dbPowerAMP Music Converter (http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm) and the MP4/M4A/AAC codec (http://www.dbpoweramp.net/codecs/dBpowerAMP-codec-mp4-aac-decode.exe) for dbPowerAMP Music Converter.

Thanks a ton!!!!

Easy CD-DA Extractor 7.0 can batch convert in both directions between loads of formats, including AAC & MP3.

if you care at all about quality, then just re-rip the cd's straight to MP3. yes AAC is better, but it is still lossy. you will never get the same quality going from AAC to MP3 then if you go straight to MP3. at the very least, please don't share these transcoded files and spread them around :( that is my biggest pet peeve :(

Nah, my friend wants to borrow my old mp3 player for a bit, and hes too lasy to load it up himself, so I'm preloading it for him.

Protected? Elaborate on that. If you are trying to convert AAC files purchased from Apple's iTunes music store then you will not be able to do so as they are encrypted.
# 11 Re: AAC to MP3?
You can use playfair to remove the protection, and then convert them.
# 12 Re: AAC to MP3?
Good luck finding Playfair. Apple has been on them big time recently. Forcing them to move off Souceforge and then to an India server and just recently getting the India server to remove Playfair. I think it Playfair was only available in source code anyways and that isn't useful to the average user.
But if you are going to convert the AAC to MP3 anyway, why not just burn the protected AAC to an audio CD and then rip it in the MP3 format?
