"iPod Freezing" and "iPod Corrupted"

We have two iPods that we connect to my computer. A 5th generation 60GB iPod who freezes, and a 5.5th generation 30GB iPod which iTunes tells us is corrupted. We are running iTunes 7.0.2.16.

"iPod Freezing" freezes while connected to my computer, the "Do Not Disconnect" screen locks in place. Yes, I know how to reset it holding down menu and select, but I have to do this EVERYTIME I connect my iPod to my computer. There has to be something I can do to actually *fix* this problem.

"iPod Corrupted," well, my computer says it's corrupted. No other computer is has been hooked up to says that it is. Only mine. For awhile we were able to managed the music of "iPod Corrupted," but not anymore. iTunes sometimes even tries to tell me that "iPod Corrupted" isn't even formatted for PC, which is a load of crap, it's only ever been connected to PCs. We haven't restored because some music would be totally lost (was purchased on iTunes and can't be loaded onto a computer that isn't on that account). Plus the iPod works on other computers, it seems silly that we should restore just because it has problems on mine, although most of our music is on my computer.

So is the problem with the iPods or with my computer or with iTunes. I'm tried reinstalling iTunes, but I can't figure out how to cleanly uninstall it. If I truly reinstall it then I should have to reupload everything into my library, but all of those files were kept in place. There were still iTunes files on my computer even though I used their uninstall shield.

Two iPods, two different problems, one computer.

Some thing must be wrong with your computer. Do other USB devices work normally on your computer?

OK keep in mind that I'm a iPod newbie.
I have the same problem and I'm researching to find an answer.

In the Apple forum I found somebody with an answer. He says that when he changed his 2.0 USB card to one of the approved cards he had no more problems. Another member replied to his post and said that it fixed his problem as well.
The thread was one year old. So I would think that there is probably newer information available. Keep searching - if you find something email me/private message.
Here's the link to the page with the approved 2.0 cards http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93405

If anybody else can point us to a thread or concur with the above info it would be much appreciated
