Have not been on here in AGES, hi all! and question..

Hey guys how are you all? i havn't been on here in yonks, as my title suggests :P

Since last time i was on here, probbaly about a yr ago or something like that-i upgraded from windows 98 (HA) to a 20 inch iMac with 2 gig RAM...oh god, what a step up hehe. IAlso about 2 weeks ago my 60 gig video ipod, which had never given me any problems whatsoever was knicked. just stolen. so i sent mum over to singapore, where she was headed anyway and she got me an 80 gig iPod white video etc. all that jazz.

I havn't opened it yet because i was really after a black one...yes that sounds childish but, hey, if im gonna have to fork out an extra 400-500 bucks for something i already had working fine, i may aswell get what i want :P

my question IS do you think i would be able to walk into an apple store and say hey i got this from my mum, i have no receipt, i havnt opened it, i just wanted a black one..? what do you think my chances are? whether they are slim or not ill still give it a shot i cant really lose unless my ipod happens to get flogged off me on the way...so yeah!

just curious what you thought,
take care all,

Dev

Hey...who are you again? :D

Umm...I'd say your chances are pretty much 0. Exchanging an iPod isn't like fixing a broken one, where you don't need a receipt. Considering you probably haven't registered it, bought it at the store you're going to exchange it at, the chances of going up to the store with an iPod bought somewhere else or picked up off the ground and exchanging it is pretty much the same as what you want to do. Unfortunately, the only option you have is to sell it and get the color you want or deal with the white-colored iPod. ;)

It's certainly worth a try, although you don't have any actual corporate Apple Stores down there, do you? (by "corporate" I mean ones run by Apple themselves).

You'd therefore be dealing with an Apple retailer, therefore, so it's really up to them whether or not they would do this for you (since it would really just be an independently-run computer shop that happens to sell Apple products).

In this case, it's completely up to the individual store. Since it's sealed and new in the box, they shouldn't really have any reason not to, but at the same time the number of dishonest people out there has made the average store owner more cynical about possible scams.

Perhaps somebody with experience at the iPod retailers down under can provide some more insight.

i'd ring those nice people at the online Apple store first (133622) and she if they can arrange a swap out at an Apple Reseller or one of their own "stores in stores" (DJs, Myer, Domayne)

otherwise you're going to have to send your mum back to Singapore :)

Sorry for semi hijacking the thread, but do Australian phone numbers only have 6 digits?

/\

Fixed line telephone numbers in Australia consist of the area code (two digits, starting with '0'), and an eight-digit local number.

cheers guys! thats a great idea yinyang, im heading into th city today with my gf and ill see what they can do there, if they say no ill call the online apple people :)

and yeah we in australia have area codes, but generally we dont need to use them unless your calling to a place thats maybe like an hour or 2 hour drive away. peronally ive never had to use one :) so realistically it'll be an 8 digit number..mobiles are 10 digits and generally numbers like company's or something are less (e.g apple's online store) coz they're so big etc...other company's have 1800 at the start which is toll free but i think im getting a little ofc course from your question :P hehehe

alrightyyy the answer at one store was yes, but he said i'd have to wait like 2 weeks because they had no 80 gigs coming in for a while. how useless. but yeah im not waiting that long.

good news is that my sister has succumbed to the iPod's appeal :) and i payed 400 for mine and she would have to pay 500 for a new one, so i offered to split it and pay her 50 bucks, so it would cost us both $450 and i could get a black one. normally i wouldnt do something like that but hey, i figure im helping her out! haha so yeah its settled. i ordered my black iPod today, should get it like mid-next week i think coz i got it engraved.

thanks for all your help fellas!

p.s. whats the size maximum for sigs? i was thinking of making one but its a bit hard without the maximum pixel size..thanks!
