Roll up the rim is back!

Today, Tim Hortons starts their roll up the rim contest, and if you're like me, you are getting awfully statistically close to getting your 1/1,000,000 chance of winning something other than a coffee or cookie. This year the car is a toyota camry hyrbird, and they are also giving away ipods!! I'm going tomorrow.

Heh, I can't help but chuckle at seeing a post from somebody in New York state about a promotion at Tim Horton's, which is an iconic Canadian institution.... :D

Lancaster is about 20 minutes away from Buffalo, which I'm sure you probably know is home to the peace bridge, so I do have a lot of Canadian influence. Plus, my mom's Canadian and we have relatives up there so her Timmy's craze rubbed off on me haha.

And here I thought Tim Horton's was a steak place.

Nevermind, I was thinking of Morton's...

Hehe, I went to Tim Horton's in Canada once, and they're all over the place. There was one on every block! I actually never heard of the place before.

Tim Hortons is a huuge thing here in Canada.

Tim Hortons has supplanted McDonald's as Canada's largest food service operator; it has nearly twice as many Canadian outlets as McDonald's, and its system-wide sales surpassed those of McDonald's Canadian operations in 2002. The chain accounted for 22.6% of all fast food industry revenues in Canada in 2005. Tim Hortons commands 76% of the Canadian market for baked goods (based on the number of customers served) and holds 62% of the Canadian coffee market (compared to Starbucks, in the number two position, at 7%).

There is 1000+ in Ontario alone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Tim_stores_wiki.png)...

This should just tell you what Tim Hortons means to us...

I never hear about anyone actually WINNING one of those contests...and correct me if i'm wrong, but I don't think there are any Tim Hortons in the USA. They have Krispy Kreme, which in my opinion tastes wayyy better.

Actually, there are quite a few in the U.S. now, partly due to their partnership with Wendy's. Originally they were only in the areas near the border (ie, upstate New York, Maine, Michigan, etc), but now have started to expand further south.

We even have one at our Canadian Forces Base in Kandahar... :)

Tim Horton's is one reason why Krispy Kreme has had limited success in Canada. Of course, we're more about coffee than donuts up here, and Tim's appeals more to that.

Whoever says there is 1000 in ontario alone, you are probably need to add a few zeros lol. Just count the number of intersections in ontario, and that's how many Tim's there are. Also, my friend won the SUV a few years back. Lucky son of a gun.

PS. I went today and won nothing. drat! I wanna win the nano, it's 4 gigs too!

OK well, I officially have beaten the odds. As of Monday morning, I have consecutively lost 11 times in a row, but today I won my first coffee!!!

Also I had a dream I had won the car. Maybe the 11 times in a row lost = car. You can't win if you don't play. lol

It means TH is a place to go to if you want to drink terrible coffee and get extremely fat eating their donuts. By the time someone rolls up the rim and wins their Toyota Camry they'll be too obese to get inside it. You're better off hoping for an iPod so you can just lie there in the TH parking lot listening to music while they get a forklift to take you home. ;)

I simply can't understand my country's infatuation with Tim Hortons. It's not what it's cracked up to be.

# 20 Re: Roll up the rim is back!
To be fair, I think the majority of people just drink the coffee and don't worry too much about the donuts. While I occasionally grab a soup and/or sandwich there, most often it's just for a quick coffee, and it's not like they're hard to find :)

It's not connoisseur coffee by any stretch of the imagination, and therefore can't really complete with the likes of Starbucks, Second Cup or Timothy's, but it's about as good as anything you'll get in an equivalent average coffee shop, and fine for a quick coffee on the go.

# 21 Re: Roll up the rim is back!
yeah, way to badmouth TH. The donuts are unhealthy, but the coffee isn't that bad. The cafe mocha is the best thing there is there. I don't know how similar the menus are from here and Canada, but you should definitely try a cafe mocha. I think it's like a coffee and a hot chocolate combined. Good stuff

To add what jhollington said, it isn't like a charbucks or anything like that, but also don't forget which one has a drink that goes into dollars in the double digits. Also, starbucks never has contests like TH does.

# 22 Re: Roll up the rim is back!
All doughnuts are unhealthy, not just those from Tim Horton's.

# 23 Re: Roll up the rim is back!
Thing is, Krispy Kreme donuts taste better than the crap that comes out of Tim's, I live in Vancouver and the nearest Krispy Kreme is in Delta, about 45 km away near the US/Canada border, and I go there just to buy a dozen donuts. Tim Horton's coffee is really good though, I like Tim's more than I do Starbucks.

# 24 Re: Roll up the rim is back!
Krispy Kreme have like 4 grams of transfat her donut. They'll clog your arteries quicker than McDonald's. I like them, but they were shut down in Toronto for going out of business. Timmy Ho's is the top.

# 25 Re: Roll up the rim is back!
True that donuts are bad for one's health no matter where you get them from. I was just trying to be a bit sarcastic and ultimately humorous in my original post. Although in all seriousness I just don't understand Canadian's obsession with the franchise. Their coffee is terrible. Hell, 7-11 coffee is better than Tim's. But I guess that's why Tim needs to do the "Roll Up The Rim" promos every year.

There's about 4 or 5 Tims within a 3 mile radius around where I work/live. Every single one of them has a line up @ the drive thru that seems to go on all day. Mind you almost every second vehicle in that line up is a truck with one headlight still working. Not sure what that means but I'm just saying...

Fittingly I recieved this joke email today...

Two American tourists were driving through Nova Scotia.
As they were approaching Shubenacadie (shoe-been-aack-id-dee), they
started arguing about the pronunciation of the town's name. They
argued back and forth until they stopped for lunch. As they stood at
the counter, one tourist asked the blonde employee,

"Before we order, could you please settle an argument for us?

Would you please pronounce where we are... ver-r-ry slo-o-owly?"

The blonde waitress leaned over the counter and says,

"Tiiimmmmm Hoorrrrttoooonnns"

Starbucks? Cheap? You gotta be B.Sing me...

Relative to other coffee joints, Starbucks is head and shoulders above competitors in price.
