cingular service on a verizon razor?

Question for anyone who would know this.

My next door neighbor gave me his motorola Razr. He had verizon wireless. When you turn the phone on, it says verizon wireless and on the back of the Razr it is engraved with the verizon trademark.

I have cingular service. Am I able to call, get a SIMM card or something from cingular to be able to use this phone? I would call cingular, but I fear they would say no and try to push me to purchase from them. I want an honest answer.

Anyone here know?

Verizon has a nasty tendency to lock all their phones down so they can only be used with their network, as does Cingular. That coupled with the fact that Verizon uses CDMA and Cingular uses GSM, I'd say you're probably SOL. Their could be some software out there to unlock the phone, but the network differences may still be an issue.

Cingular and Verizon use totally incompatible networks.

yeah..

cingular and t-mobile will work, you just need to unlock the phone, but Verizon uses a different type of network

Unload it on eBay, am sure lotsa people would rather not have a contract tied to their necks.
