Re-reading iTunes library

Hi,

I have iTunes with all my music on a primary computer connected to a network. I back up the iTunes music subfolder on a wireless hard drive, also connected to the network. I have another, authorized computer on the network. What I have tried to do is backup the music on the external hard drive and then, using chronosync, synchronize the backup onto the other computer. However, iTunes does not recognize the new music following a synchronization, even though it's in its own iTunes folder. I have the iTunes software set to manually update the iTunes library (since I don't want to "consolidate library" and lose control of the music to the software). Is there some way I can manually force iTunes to reread its iTunes folder? Or, can one only way to do that via "consolidate library?"

Thanks for your help!
