2 user accounts sharing one iTunes music folder?

is this at all possible?

first of all, this is windows XP pro w/ sp2 installed, and latest iTunes 7.something

what I want to do is use 2 user accounts, each with an iTunes account, to acess one centrally located music library. Its my girlfriends account and my own.

we previously kept our library's seperate, but now she decided she wants everything in her library and will set up her own individual playlists and stuff. I have been keeping MOSTLY everything loaded up in my iTunes library but theres some stuff thats not there.

so now, i want to merge them to save drive space.

I was having a problem acessing the files from the other's user accounts, but I figured out that part... basically following the steps to transfer files from one account to another. so now i have a folder full of both our library's of copied music.

i read the tutorial about moving to a new hard drive:
http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/...new-hard-drive/
but im not sure if that method will work right? anyone have any ideas?

I'm not sure exactly how it would work, but I can imagine problems arising if you do this. Especially if you let iTunes manage your music. If you delete a song or edit the tags (song name, artist, album) with one iTunes, then the file will be deleted, moved, or renamed. This will cause the other copy of iTunes to lose track of the file, and you won't be able to play it again until you manually "find" it (if it still exists i.e. was only moved and not deleted) by pointing iTunes to the new location.

Are you using 2 user accounts for some other reason, or is it simply to keep each other's music off of your iPods? If it's the latter, you should check out the "Sync selected playlists" option. This way you can make "His music" and "Her music" (and/or whatever else you want) playlists and sync only the playlists each of you wants to their own iPod.
