how do i transfer songs from my ipod to my computer? (i run xp)

my i tunes library is empty cause i only store the music on my ipod. my concern is that if i don't dump the library i will load my computer with thousands of songs. right? now i may be getting a new ipod and i want to transfer the old ipod to my pc so i can load the music from my pc to the new ipod. thanks, brandon

You don't have the space to keep all your songs on your hard drive, or you just don't want to? Autosync is "teh awesome" once you learn how to really abuse it (smart playlists based on ratings and play history), and I would recommend against manual mode unless you absolutely have to use it, but you have to keep the songs in your library in order to use autosync.

Easy. Get the freeware called Yamipod (http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/)and use that - it can replace itunes or you can just use it to take your music off the ipod and put it on the pc (and back on if you want.
Another similar program is called Floola (http://goldcoaster.wordpress.com/2007/02/22/foola-the-itunes-replacement/)
