Not mounting in disk mode
Recently i had 3 ipods die on me, within a week of each other. i have given up on the video as i can get no screen image or hard drive sound, yet all cables aer secure. as of now im getting hard drive failures on both the 4g ipods that have died. i have tried letting them sit, i have tried smacking them. i have tried it all. i was able to charge it in diagnostic mode and set it to disk mode. the ipod boots into disk mode, but as soon as the computer recognizes it, the ipod reboots. Someone has to have a solution. ill be posting more specifics on the 5g in another forum.

I've had that rebooting problem happen on a 4G or 3G before. I solved it but I wasn't smart enough to keep a log! Stay with it.
One solution that worked was disconnecting the battery, plugging in a cable (with power), booting up, disconnecting cable, then reconnecting battery and going from that. This involves popping open the iPod's shell. Worked for a 4G colour I just fixed two weeks ago for a friend of my brother's.
Have you tried the Linux + fdisk solution?
