USB Device not recognized

I have all of my music on an external usb hard drive. I have 6 usb 2.0 ports on my HP dc7100. When I have my external plugged in and go to plug in my ipod I get a USB device not recognized. When I unplug the hard drive, then plug the ipod back in...it works fine. When I go and plug the external back in it kicks out the ipod. What am I missing here? Is it a driver issue with my ipod? Thank you.

Sounds like an address problem. Why not just copy all the files off the external onto the internal, then move them to the Ipod.

Easier than trying to solve a riddle you may never run into again.. Ohh, then you can just use your Ipod as your external hard drive..
