My ipod screen broke, should i sell or repair
i dropped my ipod 5g video 30gb about 10 feet and the screen is cracked and the hard drive is un hooked. the HD appears to be okay, but the screen is not. I have three options in mind, please tell me which one would be best for me. The first is i send my ipod out and get the screen replaced and get it to work ( about how much would that cost) the second is i sell it to someone on ebay or send it out and get some money for the broken ipod ( so they can use it for parts) or the third is i buy a whole new mp3 player
here are some pics

Hello and welcome to iLounge. Since you damaged your iPod, Apple will charge you $250 to repair it. They will basically send you a refurbished unit as a swap for your broken iPod. That is why I recommend just selling the broken iPod online for spare parts (you should be able to get at least $50) and purchase a refurbished iPod from Apple's website. You can purchase a refurbished 5.5G 80GB iPod for $300 (normally priced at $350).
That will probably be your best bet. You can always put it up on eBay just to see what kind of price you will get. If you get anything over $150 for it, then I say that you should sell it online as that is 1/2 the price of a refurb 5.5G 80GB iPod.
The other option is that you can purchase a new screen for your iPod but those are pretty expensive. By the time you sell your iPod and purchase a refurbished iPod, you will have spent about the same amount of money.

Quite frankly, I think it'd be EXTREMELY wise to either get a refurb from the apple store or go ahead and get a new 5.5G..because who knows how the hard drive is going to run..you obviously dropped it pretty hard to produce a crack in the screen.

It's really not a good idea to put electronics on the carpet with static electricity and all. :p

You can get a refurb 30GB iPod for the same price. That way, any of your iTunes Store purchased content will still work as it can't be played on any other portable player besides the iPod.

iPodMods sells replacement screens for a little over $100 and they provide a how-to guide. Replacing the LCD looks pretty easy.

Then again, the hard drive could be internally damaged from the fall and the OP put the device on carpet, not the best solution for static shock avoidance.
