Did you try to reset your iPod? Was it cold in the car or too hot in the car overnight?

of course it was cold, it's canada.
I've done this before, it took a bit to warm up. Then I tried holding down play and menu till it does that little reset thing.. or try hooking it up to itunes when it warms up

Have you tried going into disk mode? Press menu+center and play/pause. Otherwise, you could try draining out your iPod's battery completely, and then connecting it to your computer.
