5g ipod skipping
hi
first post here so i hope its not a stupid question.
i have had a 5g ipod for 11 months and have had no problems with it untill today.
when trying to play tracks , it will jump from track 1 to track 4 and start playing and at other times it wont play at all and will skip through the entire cd and return to the menu.
is this a hard drive problem or something simpler to solve.

I had this happen with one album when I first got this iPod. I would play the album and the player would jump from the first track to the sixth track. I ended up having to delete the album from the iPod in iTunes (my iPod is set for manual updating) and copying it again to the player.
That fixed it and I haven't had that issue come up since.

Hello and welcome to iLounge. More than likely, the songs that are being skipped are corrupt. Either they have an incompatible ID3 tag (for mp3's only), are not complete (ie the encoding process was stopped with a few seconds to go), or they don't meet the AAC/mp3 standards.
Try re-ripping the songs if you have the source CD. If you purchased them off of the iTunes Store, then contact Apple. If you downloaded them off of a peer-to-peer service, then you should try legally purchasing them off of the iTunes Store or try picking up the CD.
