power drain when docked

I just bought a Ipod Video 30Gb 5G and im loving it!!

I do however have a short question about the battery in combination with the docking station:
When I play music from a fully charged (docked) ipod : will the power be drained from the battery or will the power come directly from the connected charger an leave the battery full? (without much use of the backlight)

When your iPod is docked and playing music while plugged in to the wall, your iPod will be charged till it's full and then start running off the power provided by the wall charger. You can tell whether it's running off AC power or not by looking at the battery icon. If it has a plug on it, that means it's running off AC power. If it has a lightning bolt, that means it's being charged and also using AC power.

This is in no way a criticism of your question Lennerd, but this takes me back to my Iriver days. The constant debate about whether a battery supplied power to the player while it was being charged came up on a regular basis. It wouldn't be able to work that way simply due to safety issues. So many people used to think that you had to watch the indicator on the display and disconnect the power source immediately after the fully charged icon appeared to prevent battery damage and that it charged the unit as it was being charged itself. You could understand there being some misunderstanding about it at first but the forum was clogged up with many similar questions.

I have an external battery pack which I use when watching videos at home. It runs off four high 2700mAh rechargeable batteries and it prevents too many frequent recharges that will shorten the life of my player. Apple say so long as you let the battery go through one discharge cycle per month your battery should have a pretty good shelf life. I usually go through about two per week.
