Would You Walk On This?

"Slated for completion next spring, The Skywalk is a 130-foot horseshoe-shaped structure that will protrude 60 feet from the Grand Canyon's west rim. The Hualapai (WALL-ah-pie) tribe is spending $30 million to build this, hoping that people will make the 2 1/2 -hour drive from Las Vegas for the chance to gaze over 3,000 feet down to the ruddy Colorado River through the structure's clear floor. Architect Mark Johnson said the Skywalk will be built to withstand canyon winds of 100 mph and will be capable of holding a few hundred people without bending. It will have shock absorbers to keep it from wobbling up and down like a diving board and making people woozy."

Would I walk on it? At gunpoint, maybe (a bit of acrophobia).

No way, being scared of heights you can barely get me to look over the edge at Observation Decks.

Seems like it might be popular at first, but being 2 1/2 hours from Vegas I don't think it will have the same draw as the Hoover dam which is about an hour away. Unless there are other activities 5 hours back and forth just to look over the edge doesn't seem worth it. Particularly when right on the strip for a bit more money you can take a aerial tour.

That's pretty sweet, I could've sworn I've seen that before, like in a painting or something

I would definately do it though, take some nice pictures from up there

Are you kidding? Given that I've been know to have vertigo-type symptoms standing at the top of a flight of stairs, I think I'll be staying away from that one. I'm getting butterflies (not the good kind) just imagining it!

How do Hualapai Indians have $30 mil.? I would depending on what it's built on and if other people have died yet. :D

I'm not too good with heights so I don't think I'd walk on it. It just looks so preciously placed...

Meh, I’m not necessarily fond of heights but if I had my iPod to comfort me, I guess it would be alright. :D

Uhh no, being afraid of heights has limits, and that's waay over the limit... XD Clear flooring, makes the whole situation worse for me.

Would you walk on this ( http://mb14.scout.com/fvanderbiltfrm10.showMessage?topicID=3846.topic)?

I don't see anything wong with it. Looks safe to me. It is made in China after all.

No, I wouldn't. Not out of fear, but out of principal. I'm not a tree hugger, but that doesn't exactly fit into the grand canyon, and if anything detracts from the experience of seeing it rather than adding to it. Great, one of the United States's greatest natural attractions is going to turn into one vast tourist trap. At least it's big enough that it'll take a hundred or so years to turn it into Gatlinburg. I can see the chairlifts, the Ripley's believe or not, go kart tracks, funnel cake stands just over the horizon...

Not a chance! I couldn't even walk onto the glass floor in the CN Tower (Toronto) at around 340 meters - while my teenage sons were dancing around on it & making fun of me....

# 19 Re: Would You Walk On This?
After someone has tested it I would. ;)

I'd actually think it would be a rather great experience.

We went on this air walk in the State Rainforests in Tasmania, not as high, but the last part stuck out over the flowing rivers quite high, and you could bounce it, which I did and made everyone around me run for cover. :D

I'll have to hunt down the link and see how high that was.

I found a photo.
