ipod help

hi i just bought a shuffle, and i downloaded itunes. I draged all my songs from my comp into a folder i made in itunes then i draged that folder into my ipod folder and it keeps on giving me this message.
"The ipod cannont be updated the disk could not be read from or written to"
how do i fix this and add songs on? and when i plug it in, it continuously has orange light on?

one more thing, when you guys bought your ipod shuffles 2nd gen, did you have to recharge or was it already charge? and when its charging is it suppose to be a blinking orange light or a non blinking orange light? thanks again

Dragging doesn't cut it. You need to add your music through iTunes: File --> Add File To iTunes or File --> Add Folder To iTunes.

download itunes > add songs > connect ipod through usb dock > sync songs onto ipod.

yea i did that but anything that tries to sync, update, add songs, etc... the messege will come up
should i just return it and get a new one?
