So does that mean that the 5G iPod is obsolete now?

With the revealing of the iPhone, does it mean the 5G iPod video is obsolete?
Discuss.

No, not at all...

The 5G iPod is a 30Gb/80Gb player that is dedicated to video playback, and can be purchased by anybody (not just Cingular customers).

The iPhone is a 4Gb/8Gb device that will do video and audio playback very nicely, but it's in a completely different arena because of the phone and PDA capabilities.

Now, to be fair the next-generation iPod is very likely going to look much like the iPhone, likely with a hard drive and a focus on only the iPod capabilities.

Absolutely not:

The iPod is the only way to get anything more than 8GB of storage.
The iPhone isn't out in the US until June, Europe until the end of the year and Asia until next year - Apple wouldn't leave the market empty for that long.

What? No Way. The iPhone is geared towards the phone/pda market. I don't think anyone is going to sell their iPod video for one of these. I'd get one to replace my phone if it was priced right. We'll have to wait and see.

meh, selling my iPod Video for one actually passed my mind for a second.
but i changed my mind, and would prefer my iPod video than an iPhone right now.
maybe when my Cingular plan ends, the iPhone will either have a bigger capacity, or it'll be a couple hundred cheaper, and i might buy one.

I think a lot of people were hoping for the unveiling of the iPod 6G today. iPhone is a nice product if people would stop thinking it's the next iPod. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

Just get the iPod. I would be a lot more happier with the iPod than the phone to tell you the truth. That's what brought me to iLounge in the first place. Not cell phones.

Look up the differences between technical and functional obsolescence.
