Razr V3i + iTunes Users Review

Well, lets get some good post on this slow forum here. Just got my v3i (there are many Razr models) from Cingular. BTW, if u like this phone, CompUSA has got it cheap NOW.

My Cingular came with 512 MB SD and iTunes limit of 100 songs, whichever comes first, according to the manual. It has the "music" button (a dedicated button on the phone that brings up iTunes).

It plays AAC 128kbps, MP3 192kbps and no higher, it does on-the-fly conversion to your high-bitrate songs, but it's slooooowww. I transferred 173 MB (26 songs album VBR) worth of music and it took 90 minutes @ 320 kbit/sec (curiously my 650 mhz notebook was on 15% cpu load so I dunn know who's handling the conversion). Without conversion, the v3i transfer rate was metered at 1.5 - 2 mbit/sec by using the usb cable. Bluetooth transfer is not possible according to the manual, but a hack may do it. Visit http://www.motomodders.net/. I can't stand to have my phone locked for more than a few minutes, so if I have to do that next time, I would probly do the conversion off-line, or start a sync b4 going to bed.

Overall, I am dissapointed by the iTunes implementation. The phone doesn't show on iTunes as another iPod, but as a Phone Device. This means, Podcast doesn't work as is, and sync is manual only. Defeats the purpose of an automated tool that suppose to "take care" of things for you.

With the v3i closed, u can pause/resume and volume+/- and that's it. The volume control is too coarse (big step changes), so an in-line attenuator (volume control) on whatever headset you have is recommended.

My v3i came with a stereo wired headset, cheap, stiff (tucking) cable, u probly need to spend extra$ for something else or go BlueTooth. I don't have BT yet, still thinking about it.

U can use any MP3/AAC for ringtone as is.

Addendum:

The V3i doesn't have Bluetooth Stereo profile! That means u can't listen to stereo through BT stereo headsets (major bummer). While I wasn't planing to use BT stereo headset, but I would love to play the phone to my BT car audio, and my BT home stereo without wires. Not many other phones have BT stereo profile, but am sure more will as time goes by... When looking for such phones, yer looking for A2DP and/or AVRC.

Does it keep track of playcounts and last played and does that sync to iTunes? Is there an autofill feature like with a Shuffle? Manual only kind of sucks if that's the case.
