Help ripping CD with iTunes

How do you rip a CD and send the songs to your iTunes V3i using the iTunes app on your PC? Im not having any luck at itwell, I can send the songs to my phone but all I hear when I play them is click, click, click. . . click.

When I insert a CD into the drive with iTunes already running, the songs are automatically loaded into the playlist. With the phone connected I press Autofill and the songs in the playlist are transferred to the phone. (The Convert higher bit rate songs into128 kbps AAC checkbox is checked.) When I play the songs, though, all I hear are clicks. I deleted those from the phone and tried selecting all songs in the iTunes playlist and right clicking then selecting Convert selected to AAC before sending to the phone by pressing Autofill but the only difference I find is that each song is duplicated on the phone (i.e., if there are 10 songs on the playlist, 20 songs will show up on the phone), and none of them will do anything but click.

Do I have to convert everything to .MP3 first? Can someone walk me through using the iTunes app? Thanks!
